Conference calling is an affordable and high-value tool that is quick and easy to set up.  Here are some tips to make the most of your new cheap conferencing options:

Try printing out visual aides, agendas and other handouts and distributing them to your participants before the call.  These are useful to illustrate and explain what’s being discussed and are essential if you’re running a call where most of the participants are in she same room and only a few remote callers are involved.

The remote attendees can feel very confused and left out if they aren’t able to see the same visuals as the rest of the meeting.

Another trick for dealing with remote participants is to place their pictures, or even just a big sign with their names on it, in the main meeting room.  Out of sight is out of mind and this way nobody will forget to include the remote callers in the meeting.

Many cheap conferencing vendors also include an option to have the call recorded or transcribed, and a copy of a well planned and managed meeting can prevent a lot of questions and mistakes down the road.
